about

Bassist Greg Chudzik, frequent performer with new music groups Talea Ensemble, Ensemble Signal, and Wet Ink Ensemble, as well as the eclectic band Empyrean Atlas, releases this solo digital only EP on the newly formed Panoramic imprint of his layered compositions for electric bass. Each of the four works are inspired by a musician who has had a profound influence on Chudzik's approach to music: Biodun Kuti, Steve Reich, Bill Frisell, and John Luther Adams. Chudzik explores the fertile world of timbral possibility on the electric bass within a context of layered studio production, though these pieces do exist in live performance versions with the aid of looping technology. From “Bossman”, Chudzik’s ode to the Nigerian guitarist Biodun Kuti, to “Parks Road”, his expansive work evoking the majesty of Denali National Park in Alaska, and dedicated to John Luther Adams, this recording is a nuanced and sophisticated snapshot of how looping has broadened the possibilities of minimalist compositional techniques in works for solo instruments.
